Percentage : – Percentage means for every hundred.

A fraction whose denominator is 100 is known as percent.

The numerator of the fraction is known as the rate of percent.

 It is denoted by %.

The term ‘percent’ comes from two Latin words ‘per’, ‘centum’

which means “out of 100”.

“ The symbol for percentage is %”.

The word ‘percent’ means ‘per every hundred’ or ‘for a hundred’.

The symbol ‘ %’ is used to represent percentage.

Thus,  

• 1% (one percent) means 1 out of a 100;
• 35% ( 35 percent) means 35 out of 100 and
• 91% (ninety one percent) means 91 out of a 100
